A Knot of Thorns - Prison Break II

Image
The alarm horn moans through the halls as it’s musician is slain and his comrades are pummeled by the resident ogre.  Our budding villains quickly take inventory of their new found armament as Shivers attempts a solo escape through the courtyard.  His plan is foiled by a small barrage of arrows causing him to retreat back to his party, to safety in numbers, to the tank Grumblejack.   Barring the door to the mess hall our intrepid adventurers await their fate; Vicky befriends the servant Sam and presses him for information about the prison.  The quiet calm is soon broken with a pound at the door followed by demands for surrender by an unknown speaker.  The criminals decide to hold their ground meanwhile Harlock notices movement from their rear, sending Sam reluctantly into the kitchen to investigate.  Sam’s kitchen incursion and followed confusion earns him an arrow to his head having tested Harlock’s patience.  Patience being a luxury our scoundre...

A Knot of Thorns - Prison Break

Image
After being marked and condemned to death, a group of prisoners band together in an attempt to break out of the most secure prison in all of Talingarde.  Three humans, Harlocke, Shivers, Vicky, and a Half-Orc named Lumond are chained to a prison cell wall awaiting their sentencing to be carried out when Shivers receives word he has an unexpected visitor. Chaos ensues as the guards fumble around attempting to unshackle Shivers with the guards attacking each other, seemingly randomly, to the displeasure of Sargent Tomas Blackerly. Once Shivers is secured in the interrogation room, he receives a visit from a woman named Tiadora. " Oh, dearest, ” proclaims the unfamiliar woman. “ I’m so relieved you’re alive!” She quickly turns to Tomas. “ Could we please have a moment alone, good sir? For pity’s sake? ” Tomas goes blank for a bit and then quickly agrees. “ Of course, my lady. For you,’ tis no problem. ” As soon as the guards leave, Tiadora’s demeanor immediately changes. She drops a...

Way of the Wicked

The Kingdom of Talingarde (pronounced Talon-guard) is perhaps the noblest, most virtuous and peaceful nation yet founded. The royalty of this dominion has rescued a dispirited people from the brink of despair and darkness. They dealt with their enemies honorably and their allies faithfully. Talingarde is a paragon of the age, a bright shining city upon a hill. Ruled by King Markadian V called the Brave of House Darius. He has only one heir - the beautiful princess Bellinda. This benevolent monarchy is heavily intertwined with the Church of Mitra, the Shining Lord. Yet the nation faces now it's greatest test; that test is YOU! You are from Talengarde, you have lived here your entire life. And if they gave you half a chance, you would have your revenge on all of them. It is your ambition to do nothing less than destroy Talingarde utterly. Guilty!  You are a lawbreaker - the worst of the worst. Too dangerous to live amongst the good people of Talingarde, they dragged you in chains bef...

Voxels, what’s not to love?!?

Image
About 2 years ago I thought I would take a dive into creating a Voxel engine.  Well… engine is a loose term I suppose as I would be building such a thing on top of an existing engine.  A more apt description would probably be: About 2 years ago I thought I would take a stab at learning about voxel rendering and if my projects could benefit from such things. Going in to the voxel fantasy with the inspiration of  youtube videos  was difficult as I had no idea where to begin.  Eventually I put the exploration onto the back burner as I had other areas of interest to develop for first and foremost.  It wasn’t until a recent game development meetup where I saw someone’s voxel engine that they had been working on for the last 3 years inspired me to revisit my former desires with voxels. Over the previous 2 weeks I have created a voxel data structure, a chunk data structure, and found a way to successfully save the data to a file without all the raw overhead of...
